"Shadow of Doubt" (WIC-in)
instrumental

When I listen to this song, I get a picture in my mind of a lonely drifter passing through a sparsely populated, or even deserted, town (any one who has ever seen "Last Man Standing" will have an idea of what I mean).  This is a very dark and brooding piece.  The title leads me to believe that this about someone trying to make a decision of some kind.  He has a course of action he wants to take, but is constantly plagued by worries and misgivings.  He's always thinking to himself "What could go wrong if I did this?" or "Well, maybe if I did that, this might happen."  He just can't get past his doubts.  In the end, he finally overcomes his fears and does whatever it was he intended.
The rhythm is played in a deep, clean guitar, slowly and deliberately.  This serves to illustrate the contemplation that is going on, as well as the consistency of the desired purpose our guy has.  The lead is in medium distortion and is sporadically distributed throughout the song, with the notes staying fairly low.  With this, we see the pangs of doubt that jump in and out his mind, preventing him from making his decision.  Toward the end, the music speeds up slightly and the drums kick in and the lead starts playing higher notes.  At this point, our man has made up his mind.  The rhythm is still present and unchanged, but it is quieter. This shows us that his doubts are still there, but he has quelled them.
