Empire

1990

Many of today's Queensryche fans were introduced to the band hearing one of the songs off this album on the radio, and many of those heard the title track.  I must admit, one of this album's songs got me into Queensryche (I think it was "Jet City Woman").  Of the eleven tracks, I have heard seven of them at one time or another on the radio.  I came across someone who said this is the band's most mainstream album.  Maybe, but since I have never heard a style similar to Queensryche's, I can't concur.  Another opinion I encountered was that most of the songs on this album have positive messages.  Again, I disagree.  The songs on this album fall roughly into two categories: contemplative and critical.  The contemplative ones seem to be explorations of certain, specific aspects of the human condition.  The critical ones pick on some aspect of society and/or humanity, sometimes proposing solutions to the problems they detail.  I know this album quite well, so I will treat each song individually.
