Nikki goes to confront X. He tells X he wants
out, but X brings out the mind control drug and goes after him with it.
Gripped by fear, Nikki flees. He tries desperately to cover his tracks,
believing that X is after him. As he runs, he has urges to go back
to the drug, but he resists them. He has finally acted against X,
but now he fears it may cost him dearly.
This song could also be seen as a "don't do drugs"
message from the band, though that probably wasn't too much on their minds
when they wrote it. The image of the writing on the wall surfaces
again here. With the reference to it, Nikki shows he has begun to
believe that his fate is imminent, and not a good one. This song
is imbued with a sense of primal fear, like that of prey fleeing a predator.
In this case, Nikki is the prey and X is the predator.
The music is fast and frenzied. The voice
sounds almost like it is crying in terror and the lead guitar echoes it.
The heavy rhythm guitar and drums convey a sense desperation. After
the short guitar solo, we hear a short burst of heavy panting, much like
that of a person who is cornered and about to die, and knows it.
