"The Needle Lies"
(Nikki: I've had enough and I want out!
X: You can't walk away now.
laughs sinisterly)
I looked back once*and all I saw was his face*smiling, the needle crying.*Walking out of his room*with mirrors, afraid I heard him scream*you'll never get away.*Cold and shaking,*and I crawled down alleys to try*and scrape away the tracks that marked me.*Slammed my face into walls of concrete,*I stared, amazed at the words written on the wall.*Don't ever trust,*don't ever trust the needle.  It lies.*Don't ever trust,*don't ever trust the needle when it cries, cries your name.*Wet and raving*the needle keeps calling me back,*to bloody my hands forever.*Carved my cure with the blade*that left me in scars.*Now every time I'm weak,*words scream to me from my arm.*Don't ever trust,*don't ever trust the needle.  It lies.*Don't ever trust,*don't ever trust the needle when it cries, cries your name.*Don't ever trust,*don't ever trust the needle.  It lies.*Don't ever trust,*don't ever trust the needle when it cries, cries your name.*

Nikki goes to confront X.  He tells X he wants out, but X brings out the mind control drug and goes after him with it.  Gripped by fear, Nikki flees.  He tries desperately to cover his tracks, believing that X is after him.  As he runs, he has urges to go back to the drug, but he resists them.  He has finally acted against X, but now he fears it may cost him dearly.
This song could also be seen as a "don't do drugs" message from the band, though that probably wasn't too much on their minds when they wrote it.  The image of the writing on the wall surfaces again here.  With the reference to it, Nikki shows he has begun to believe that his fate is imminent, and not a good one.  This song is imbued with a sense of primal fear, like that of prey fleeing a predator.  In this case, Nikki is the prey and X is the predator.
The music is fast and frenzied.  The voice sounds almost like it is crying in terror and the lead guitar echoes it.  The heavy rhythm guitar and drums convey a sense desperation.  After the short guitar solo, we hear a short burst of heavy panting, much like that of a person who is cornered and about to die, and knows it.
