Here we learn about Nikki. We find that he
is digusted with politics, believing it is just a platform for a rich minority
to gain and exert power. He believes that the leaders of organized
religion are hypocrites, because he sees how they adamantly pursue money,
power, and sex . The mass media, too, is a recepticle for his dislike.
He sees that it is biased and skews events. He feels alienated, because
he naïvely trusted the media for years to report the truth impartially.
We are told that he is the type that sells himself to the highest bidder,
though he is not violent. When he hears of Dr. X, he is overcome
by urges to attack the system that controls society, believing whatever
rhetoric X puts out. He has finally found a way of acting on the
hostile feelings he has toward those in control of society.
No deep meaning or profound images, but this song
does act to criticize several institutions. It labels politics as
a mad power struggle. It casts religious leaders down as hypocrites,
after money, power, and sex. It tells how the media is biased and
skews stories to fit preconcieved notions. Political scientists and
analysts admit and teach that the media is decidedly liberal. The
media is a business; it tries to sell you its opinions under the guise
of "impartially" reporting events.
